Previously I’ve posted on REITS, these are mainly passive, giving us dividends and does not give us a huge capital gains over time as compared to Stocks.
Stocks which give us high capital gains over time are call growth stocks, these companies do not give dividends because they are focused on R&D, putting their profits back to growing their companies. If we look at at APPLE back in 2008 for example, how much gain would we actually have now, that is an example of growth stock.
For seafarers, mostly we are spending our time at sea, we do not have the luxurious time to monitor individual stocks and do analysis on their annual reports etc,
one option is to go for ETF.
ETF is basically a baskets of stocks, this baskets reduces your risk due to its diversification. According to history, ETF will never fail you as long as your lifespan. That depends on what ETF you get too.
Examples of ETFs globally include sg – Nikko AM etf , S&P 500, Iwda, enmi. Before getting into ETF, points to note are its expense ratio, (how much are you charged for such service) what does the basket contains and is it worth it to go for it long term over time.
Just sharing what comes into my mind for now, open for discussion!
