- After setting new cylinder liner , or changing piston rings, running in must be carried out
- The purpose of running in is to achieve good sealing of rings.
- Preparation and checks to be made before starting engine
- Cylinder liners running surface- check for abnormalities
- Piston ring grooves: check for abnormalities such as wear, broken out layers
- Piston skirt, check for condition for hard areas caused by scuffing.
- Required cylinder lubricating oil feed rate to be set
- Fuel oil, running in should be done on HFO
- Cyl lub oil used to be same as normal operation
- VIT system to be set off
- Cyl cooling water, temperature fluctuation to be avoided
- Liner wall temperature, close monitoring of temperature for safe running in
- Adjusting feed rate for running in, at the beginning of running in process, it is necessary to increase the cylinder lubrication setting of unit, to max feed rate. Reduction of feed rate subsequently with running hour
- Conduct regular checks of piston rings and liner for the course of next 500 – 1000 operating hour. Federate to be reduced in small steps until require feed rate reached.
