1. EEDI energy efficiency design index, is the measure of c02 from ship.
2. The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) was made mandatory for new ships( in phases 0 in year 2013, phase 1 – 2015-2019, phase 2 – 2020 to 2024, phase 3 – 2025 onwards)  and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) for all ships (July 2011).
3. Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) is the measure of fuel efficiency allows companies to manage ship efficiency performance.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY DESIGN INDEX (EEDI)

1. The EEDI is for new ships to use of more energy efficient engines and technology
2. As long energy efficient level is attained, ship designers can use cost effective solution.
3. It is the measure of  grams of carbon dioxide (CO2) / capacity mile. (the smaller the EEDI the more energy efficient ship design) 
4. The actual EEDI of a vessel is called the “attained EEDI” must be “required EEDI” prescribed.

 

EEDI = ( engine power X SFC X CF ) / ( DWT x Speed ) 

SFC- Specific fuel oil consumption

CF – Conversion factor

DWT – dead weight tonnage

ENERGY EFFICIENCY OPERATIONAL INDEX  (EEOI)

It is the measure of fuel efficiency of the ship

Developed by imo as a tool to obtain a indicator of energy efficiency of ship

It is the measure of mass of CO2 (M) emitted per unit of transport work

 

Formula:

EEOI = ( ∑FCj  X   CFj )  / mcargo x D

 

Where:

• j is the fuel type;
• FCi j is the mass of fuel consumption;
• CFj is the conversion factor ,fuel mass to CO2 mass conversion facto;
• mcargo is cargo 
• D is the distance in nautical miles corresponding to the cargo carried or work done.

The unit of tonnes CO2/(tonnes • nautical miles)
