What are the important components to read off the fuel oil analysis chart?
Typically fuel oil analysis are required before using of the fuel oil for the engines, samples will be sent to lab for testing. examples of laboratories( Maritec or viswa lab )
Purpose for fuel oil anaylsis is to adhere to the marpol annex 6, and ensure that proper and good combustion of the combustion engine.
1) Sulphur: whether the fuel oil adhere to Marpol annex 6 (AIR) if there is no scrubber(abatement technology, sulpur content less than 0.5% worldwide & 0.1% sulphur content for emission controlled areas.
2) Vandadium: When exposed to high heat, eg more than 450 degree C , will form a sticky deposit inside the combustion engines for example on exhaust valve. Can be purified by running purifers in series.
3) Ash,aluminium, silicon, sediments: if high in these will result in more wear on piston rings, liner. Can be purified by running purifers in series.
4) Pour point ( winter, summer) : the temperature below which the liquid loses its flow characteristics. It is defined as the minimum temperature in which the oil has the ability to pour down from a beaker. Something To take note when travelling to colder countries in winter.
lets add on to the below for what you will read off from the chart.
