The International ship and port facility security (ISPS) code is an amendment to the SOLAS after Sept 11 2001 terrorist attack.
ISPS requires vessels to have a ship security plan. Prepared by Company security officer (CSO),Ship security assessment regularly carried out ensure SSP up to date.
Solas required
- Ship security alert system alert shore( activate from bridge and another location)
- Requires Automatic identification system (AIS) transmit information of ship to other ships and Coast stations.
- Ship identification number (SIN) Ship identifcation number marked on ship.
- Continuous synopsis record (CSR) consist of name of ship,id number address of owner, flag; log book that stays with the ship for its whole life, and records all changes of owner, flag, name, Class, ISM
Security level
level 1 – normal risk. minimum security measures
level 2 -increase risk, additional security measures
level 3-incident imminent. security measures maintained
Security level is set by port state and will indicate level
Ships must be issued International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC)
isps applies to the following types of ships engaged on international voyages:
- passenger ships including high-speed passenger craft;
- cargo ships, including high-speed craft of 500 gross tonnage and upwards; and
- mobile offshore drilling units.
