Purifiers are high speed rotational centrifuges and are to the handled with utmost care during operation and maintenance. Follow maker’s manual for proper starting, operation and maintenance. Some of the common guideline applicable to all the purifiers are listed below:
1. During starting observe purifier for any signs of vibration. In case of any vibration purifier must be stopped immediately and maintenance to be carried out on the bowl.
2. FO purifier is to be operated at temp of 98degC. Thruput of the purifier is to be optimised at 110% of the combined hourly consumption of Main engine, auxiliary engine and boilers. Purifier discharge pressure is to be kept at 2.2 bars. Discharge pressure can be adjusted depending on the water content of oil being purified.
3. Depending on the FO analysis report, desludging intervals can be set to lower time interval.
4. In case of bunkers with heavy impurities, purifiers can be run at reduced input in Parallel operation.
5. LO purifiers must be operated at 85-87 degC for 2 Stroke engines and at 90degC for 4 stroke engines.
6. Desludging interval of LO purifier is to be adjusted depending on the counter of back wash LO filter.
7. During rough weather desludging interval of purifiers (HFO/ LO) to be decreased as sediments settled at the web frames /scallops of tank will get dislodged.
8. Purifier’s alarms are to be tested on monthly basis.
9. Follow maker’s guidelines for proper maintenance procedure. DO NOT OPEN BOWL HOOD or GEAR CASE after switching off. Even after switching off power bowl will continue to rotate, due to inertia, for 8-10minutes. Once revolutions slowed, apply the hand brake to stop the purifier bowl rotation. Check rotation indicator to ensure that bowl have completely stopped.
10. For each change of bunkers, refer to the monogram for selection of correct size gravity disc.
