What you need:
A) 36 months total sea service after COC 5
or
B) 18 months sea service after COC 2
or
C) 12 months sea service as 2/E after COC 2Procedure for Letter of Eligibility:
CLick on “Application for Certificate of Competency as Marine Engineer officer (COCE)”
Make sure your short courses (EOSST, First Aid etc) are all still valid, and your seafarer’s medical is still valid (> 6 months remaining)
Scan all your certificates and sea service testimonials < 1 MB. Typically it takes 2~3 weeks for MPA to process, then you'll be issued with LOE to go down to MPA and register for the computer test and oral exam ($175). *Please note once you register, you’ll be on stand by to take orals at any time subject to examiners’ schedule.*Computer test consists of 50 MCQ spread over 4 topics: Control, Electrical, Maintenance, and MEK. 1 hour, 4 options, no need for calculator.

SMA Class 1 prep course
SMA runs a 1-month preparatory course every 3 months ($1856.45)
It’s not compulsory, and during the exam, the examiner may or may not enquire if you took the course.
