icedcappucino started the topic Fuel Oil Temp and Viscosity in the forum Main & Aux Engine 4 years, 4 months ago
Questions and Answers:
Q: How fuel oil temperature affects the combustion process of a diesel engine?
A: Higher fuel oil temperature reduces viscosity which causes fuel oil spray finer atomisation.
This brings forward combustion earlier due to the lower viscosity of the fuel and finer atomisation.
Excessive heating can cause machinery parts,…[Read more] -

icedcappucino replied to the topic Introduction to Air Compressor in the forum Main Air Compressor 4 years, 4 months ago
WORKING PRINCIPLE
The main air compressor takes suction from the atmosphere, via suction filter.
On LP piston downwards stroke, the suction valve opens while the delivery valve is closed.
On LP piston upwards stroke, the air is compressed. When the compressed air pressure overcomes the delivery valve’s spring tension, the delivery valve will…[Read more] -

Some observations
that some ships do not have clear indication on inlet or outlet, but in all designs,
Cooling SW/ FW always enters from top and exited from below. ( Cool to hot )
Vice versa the Coolant(JCK or OIL) enters from TOP and exits below. ( Hot to cool )
Helps if you come from a messy piping ship or just tracing pipes. 🙂

One of the PSC / Class checks is checking if the reverse power reley is working.
How to check is… to run 2 generator on synchronise.
Changed the switch to manual, reduce the governer on the switchboard to reduce the load until negative. The generator should trip.
